Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment Instrument (Abbr.:SHIIRC) was established on affiliation with Shanghai Jiao Tong University and in corperation with Shanghai SHINES Biological Medicine Science and Technology Co., Ltd.. The establishment of the Center was approved by Shanghai Science and Technology Committee in July 2015. The Center fully integrates the foundamental research resources of the University and vigorously brings in key technical personnels for industrailization, constituting the development chain from the research and development at laboratory, to the clinical research, the safety evaluation, the pilot plant testing, and finally the industrialization on a large scale. Focused on the key technichal issues in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, the Center aims to accelerate the research and development and the industrialization of intelligent instruments for gastrointestinal disease diagnosis, the intelligent tomographic chip technique, and the microfluidic for capturing and quantitifying gastrointestinal cancer cells in circulating blood, improve the local innovation capability and competitiveness of intelligent medical equipments, and promote the sustainable, fast and healthy development of high-end medical equipment industry in Shanghai.

    The Center is actively establishing a full set of molecular diagnostic techniques and service systems in the field of tumor diagnostic and theranostic for the Chinese population, and building the public service platform for the development of intelligent diagnosis instruments, ie. the base for intelligent diagnosis pilot-plant testing. Tasks of the production base include the development of new methods and materials for diagnosis, the optimization of detection techniques and crafts, the device analysis and performance test, the design, pilot-plant testing and quality control of medical equipments, the formulation of industrialization standards, and the establishment of a full set of quality management system, so as to impel the mass production of intelligent diagnostic systems, reduce import, and found an engineering research base that has a significant influence both at home and abroad.

Building goals

    With the establishment of Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Intelligent Diagnosis and Treatment Instrument, we aim to effectively integrate the existing resources of the Department of Instrument Science and Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. And under the strong supports from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, the Center for Systems Biomedicine, the Institute of Translational Medicine, concentrated on the key technical issues in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, we aim to speed up the research and development and the industrialization of the intelligent tomographic chip technique, and the microfluidic for capturing and quantitifying gastrointestinal cancer cells in circulating blood, improve the local innovation capability and competitiveness of intelligent medical equipments, promote the sustainable, fast and healthy development of high-end medical equipment industry in Shanghai, impel the mass production of intelligent diagnostic systems, reduce import, and provide effective innovative technology and hi-tech product support for cooperative enterprises.

Operation and management mode

    The Center accords with the requirements of modern enterprises, having established itself as a self-financing, self-managing and self-sustaining small unit with comparative independence. The Center implements the director responsibility system under the leadership of the board. The board is composed of directors of the Department of Instrument Science and Engineering, SJTU, Shanghai Medical Equipments Research Center Co., Ltd., and Shanghai SHINES Biological Medicine Science and Technology Co., Ltd.; the Center is responsible for the board. The technical committee is responsible for examining the plans of the Center and the work plans and projects of R&D, reviewing the designs of engineering researches, and helping provide technical and economic consultations and market information. The associate director is responsible for the director; the sub-divisions are responsible for the associate director and the director.
